2012 in review

Lookie here…..International Blogging Is Us

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 10,000 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 17 years to get that many views.

16+ Evening

Dear All
I have to say that on every level, all of you, the students, were the stars tonight.
The ‘all-hands-on-deck’ crew, who were trying to work in the common room and ended up setting up the common room and hall….fab, loved the way you were doing your bit for the wider 6th form, including Y13 volunteers like Tim Mc and Jay B. The speeches to parents from Dave and Tamsin were well set as ever. Brave stuff from Iyanu, who won all the hearts – excellent job. Already great feedback on students who helped man the stands and led with talking to parents. AS A TEAM, THE SIXTH FORM STUDENTS HAVE BROUGHT CREDIT UPON THEMSELVES, THE SIXTH FORM AND THE SCHOOL. Proud of you all.

Lessons from Auschwitz

Dear All

 The Holocaust Education Trust arrange a Lessons from Auschwitz project. We send students every year. This is an opportunity for 2 students. It consists of 4 stages:

1. Half day seminar for orientation including hearing first-hand testimony from a Holocaust Survivor;
2. A one-day visit to Aushwitz-Birkenau in Poland;
3. A half day seminar to reflect on the experience and consider the passing on of what has been learned;
4. A reporting/follow up work of your own choosing to disseminate the lessons.

The 6th form will bear the cost of this trip.
Miss Linsell has actually been on this trip previously, so you will be asked tp speak with her in the first instance.

If you are interested please see me straight away to confirm dates. First come, first served to avoid disappointment.
Mr Saunders

UPDATE ON CHANGES TO A LEVELS

As you may be aware, the government recently announced that after September 2013 students in England will no longer be able to sit A-level exams in January. Ofqual have confirmed that the removal of January exams from September 2013 affects all students, regardless of when they started their course.
What does this mean for our students?

For students who started a two year A-level course in September 2011:

  • AS and A2 examinations will be available in January 2013 and June 2013. There will be no AS or A2 examinations in January 2014 so any students who wish to resit will need to do so in June 2014 instead.

For students who started a two year A-level course in September 2012:

  • AS and A2 examinations will be available in January 2013, June 2013 and June 2014. There will be no AS or A2 examinations in January 2014.

For students who start a two year A-level course from September 2013:

  • AS and A2 examinations will be available in June 2014 and June 2015. There will be no AS and A2 examinations in January 2014 or January 2015.

Students will still be able to sit modules separately and there are no restrictions to the number of times they can resit a module or qualification. However after January 2013, students will only be able to sit in the June exam series.

RECORD A LEVEL RESULTS

Against a backdrop of A level grades dipping nationally for the first time in 20 years, our students have set new records gaining the school’s best ever A level results – over 30% gained 3 A* to B grades at AS and 40% gained 3 A* – B grades at A2, with 16% of our students gaining at least one A*. Many students were delighted to accept their first choice universities including Oxbridge where they had decided to pursue higher education. However, not only the highest achieving students are to be congratulated. Across the board our A2 students met and exceeded their individual target grades and have been able to move on to other chosen future routes. Some of our students faced huge challenges in their personal lives during their A level courses and we are particularly proud of their success.
